A Monday Morning Prayer to Start the Work Week

By Pastor Rich Bitterman

Genesis doesn’t begin on a Friday—it begins on a Monday.

Before there was sin, there was work. Before the Fall, there was purpose. Which means this week—yes, this Monday—is sacred ground.

But we forget that.

We wake up to blinking notifications and unpaid bills, cranky kids and cold coffee, and Monday feels more like a curse than a commission.

That’s why we pause—not to escape the work, but to reclaim its purpose. Not to avoid the pressure, but to bring it to the One who carries the weight of the world without breaking a sweat.

Let’s begin this week where all good beginnings start: in prayer.

Monday Morning Prayer

Father,

The week is already louder than my soul is ready for.

There are deadlines waiting, kids waking, bills due, people needing, and I confess—I don’t feel ready. Not for any of it.

But I don’t come to You with readiness. I come with realness. And I come because You invited me.

You said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). So here I am.

Before I respond to a single email, I respond to Your grace. Before I carry one burden, I cast it on You. Because You care. You see. You stay.

Help me work today—not for applause, not for escape, not even just for a paycheck—but for You. Let every task become worship. Let every interruption become an invitation to love. Let my job become an altar, and my attitude a testimony.

When I feel small, remind me You do holy work through small people.
When I feel behind, remind me You’re not bound by clocks or calendars.
When I feel unseen, remind me You are the God who sees (Genesis 16:13).

And if the day unravels, if the coffee spills, if the meeting crashes, if I snap at someone I love—don’t let me run from You. Let me run to You.

Cover my mind with peace. Guard my mouth with grace. Fill my heart with Your Spirit.

Today is Yours.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

This Day Was Never Yours to Carry Alone

There’s a lie that creeps in every Monday—it slips in between the toast crumbs and the unread texts. It says, You’re already behind. You’re not enough. You’ll never catch up.

But here’s the truth:

You don’t need to “crush the week.” You don’t need to be brilliant or bulletproof. You just need to show up with Jesus.

The world tells us to hustle harder. Scripture tells us to abide deeper.

John 15:5 doesn’t say, “Apart from Me, you can do less.”
It says, “Apart from Me, you can do nothing.”

What if that’s not a rebuke—but a rescue?

What if Monday wasn’t a race—but a reminder?

What if the pressure you’re feeling right now is really an invitation to pray?

A Simple Habit That Changes Everything

Here’s something I do—something that grounds me when I forget whose name I carry:

Before I touch a task…
Before I scroll or send or speak…
I whisper:

“Lord, help me to see this day through Your eyes. Give me grace for what’s ahead. Let me not miss You in the middle of it all.”

That one-minute pause? It’s not magic.

But it reorients my heart.
It reminds me who’s in charge.
It replaces panic with peace.

And friend, if your Monday needs anything, it’s not just caffeine. It’s clarity—that Christ is enough.

Before You Go…

You may feel tired. You may feel overwhelmed. You may feel like you’re about to walk into a warzone, or maybe just another long day no one else will ever see.

But there’s Someone who does.

He saw you wake up. He hears the prayers you don’t even have the words for. He knows how much it costs you just to keep going.

And He goes before you.

This day is not an accident.
Your life is not invisible.
And grace is not on backorder.

So take the next step—not with the pressure to perform—but with the peace of being held.

God doesn’t need you to slay Monday.

He just wants to walk it with you.
