Diving into Baptism

Romans 6:3–5

Why do we often find ourselves drawn to stories of transformation, to tales of triumph over adversity?

Perhaps it’s because, deep down, we yearn for our own victories, for our own journeys of renewal.

In the grand narrative of faith, there’s a truth that beckons us, an idea so powerful that it reshapes our very identity: when Christ met His fate, we too embarked on a transformative voyage.

Imagine for a moment that when Jesus faced death, you faced it with Him. Picture yourself being unshackled from the clutches of sin because you joined in His death. And as Christ rose, so did you, bound to Him by the threads of faith. He ascended never to face death again, and that, my friend, is your victory too.

This connection was consummated when you took your first steps as a new Christian through the waters of baptism.

The Apostle Paul, ever the eloquent teacher, asks, “Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?” (Romans 6:3).

It’s as though he’s gently nudging us, urging us to remember. You were “plunged,” you were “buried,” you were “planted,” and you were “raised” (Romans 6:3–5). This is precisely why many denominations view immersion as the truest form of baptism.

Each of these acts serves as a profound symbol of your transition, your transformation. They signify that you have passed away from sin and have emerged, reborn, to walk in the light of God’s grace.

It’s this very truth that extinguishes any notion of continuing in sin as a Christian. You simply can’t live in sin if you are dead to it.

So, let this resonate within you. As you walk this path of faith, remember the connection forged when Christ conquered death, and you, in faith, rose with Him.

Your journey is one of renewal, of embracing the newness of life, and with each step, you affirm your victory over sin.
