Questioning God: Can You Handle the Truth?

Job 38:39–41

Have you ever found yourself pondering the great mysteries of life?

It’s a fascinating question that challenges our thinking and invites us to explore the limits of our knowledge. You know, those questions that seem to have no clear answers, like trying to wrap your head around the concept of the Trinity?

It’s one of those mind-boggling ideas that can leave us scratching our heads in confusion. But fear not, because while we may not fully understand everything about God, there are some things we can be grateful for and hold on to.

You see, we may not have all the answers, but we do know a few things about the nature of God. And one thing we can be certain of is that God is holy. The Creator of the universe, the one who set the stars in motion and breathed life into every living being, is absolutely holy. That alone should leave us in awe and wonder.

But wait, you might be thinking, if there are parts of God that are unknowable, how can we be sure that He’s not unkind? That’s where the story of Job comes in. In chapters 38 and 39 of the Bible, God invites Job to take a closer look at the world around him. He tells Job to observe the animals and witness the tender care with which He watches over them.

“Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of young lions, when they crouch in their hiding places, and lie in wait in their lair? Who prepares feed for the raven when its young cry to God, and wander about without food?” (Job 38:39–41).

It’s God who satisfies the hunger of these creatures, not man. Every creature looks up to God for its sustenance. It’s God who provides them with the ability to procreate and endows them with their unique characteristics. The very existence of animals like the ostrich is a testament to God’s providence and care.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the wonder, mystery, and kindness of our Creator. Yes, His ways may be mysterious to us, but that doesn’t change the fact that He is incredibly kind.

God wants us to submit ourselves to Him, just as all the animals depend on Him. Trust in His goodness and embrace the knowledge that we have of His character.

You see, even though there are aspects of God that may be beyond our comprehension, we can find comfort in knowing that He is holy, wonderful, and kind. So let’s hold on to that truth and live our lives in awe of the One who holds the entire universe in His hands.
