Romans 1:18
Have you ever wondered why we need a gospel that proclaims righteousness?
It’s because without it, we would never have the righteousness that is essential for our salvation. Man needs a gospel that proclaims righteousness.
This is the glory of the gospel, that whatever man or woman believes in Christ they would be given that righteousness that they would never have otherwise. These words from Paul encapsulate the profound significance of the gospel in our lives.
But there’s more to it than just righteousness. God’s wrath towards unholiness is another crucial aspect we must understand.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,” (Romans 1:18).
It’s important to recognize that God is angry at all sins, regardless of their magnitude or visibility. This message from Paul serves as a warning to us, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
You see, God’s anger is not like our human emotions. He responds to sin with intense personal displeasure, but His anger is righteous, devoid of malice or spite.
In fact, God’s anger arises from His righteousness and holiness. We often project our own emotions onto God when we experience anger, but it’s crucial to understand that His anger is entirely different. He is a consuming fire, and it’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God.
This verse also teaches us that God’s wrath is not some distant, future event. It is being revealed to us right now. Therefore, my friends, there is still time to take notice and repent.
We have the opportunity to submit to Christ, who loves us unconditionally. Understanding who He is and embracing His salvation grants us the ultimate freedom.
So let us ponder the weightiness of God’s anger and the urgency it brings. Let us turn to Him in humility, seeking forgiveness and redemption. The gospel’s proclamation of righteousness and the revelation of God’s wrath are not intended to instill fear alone.
They are a call to action, an invitation to experience the transformative power of God’s love and mercy.
