Romans 3:1–2
What advantage is there in being a Jew? Why bother with circumcision if it doesn’t impress God?
These questions challenge the notion that these practices hold any value. After all, if we have the law but fail to follow it, we’ll face harsh judgment. Being a Jew seems pointless, right?
“Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? Great in every respect. First, that they were entrusted with the actual words of God,” (Romans 3:1–2).
But here’s the surprising part: Paul disagrees with this objection. He sees being a Jew and today’s Christian as having numerous advantages. The primary advantage lies in our possession of the Bible. These words of God grant us the ultimate edge.
Now, let’s be clear. Merely having the Bible doesn’t automatically save us. However, it does provide us with a tremendous advantage. Think about it, my friends — we are the custodians of God’s revelation. This is an unparalleled privilege. We alone have the unique opportunity to grasp the will and mind of God.
Having access to the Bible means we can delve into the wisdom, guidance, and truths it offers. We can study and comprehend the mysteries of faith. We can discover the path to righteousness and salvation. This advantage shapes our perspective and empowers us to navigate the complexities of life with divine insight.
Moreover, possessing the Bible allows us to share its treasures with others. We become conduits of God’s message, spreading His love, grace, and forgiveness to those around us. Our understanding of the Scriptures enables us to guide others toward the path of righteousness and the embrace of our Savior.
So, my friends, let us cherish and honor this advantage we have as Christians. Let’s immerse ourselves in the words of God, seeking wisdom and understanding. And let’s recognize the responsibility that comes with this privilege — to live out our faith authentically and share its transformative power with the world.
Remember, in possessing the Bible, we possess a divine advantage. May we use it wisely and faithfully as we walk in the light of God’s truth.
