Embracing Faith

Romans 4:3–5

What if I told you that righteousness was given to Abraham, not as a reward owed to him for his hard work.

It might sound a bit puzzling, but let’s dive deeper into this idea. In the Scripture, it says, “ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,” (Romans 4:3).

You see, Paul argues that when someone works for something, they earn it and it becomes a debt owed to them. But in Abraham’s case, it was different. His righteousness was credited to him because of his faith.

Now, Paul wants to make it clear that believing is crucial if you want to receive heavenly blessings.

He points to a verse from Genesis 15:6 where Moses said, “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED. BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT.”

This shows that Abraham wasn’t an isolated example in the Old Testament. Others also found favor with God in the same way — through faith.

You might be wondering if this still applies to us today. Well, it absolutely does! Faith means trusting God’s word, even if we don’t always agree with or like it.

Your justification comes from believing in Christ, which involves repentance and turning your heart towards Him. So, just like Abraham, it’s our faith that brings us eternity with God.
