What Makes Someone a True Person of Faith?

Romans 4:12

Have you ever wondered what makes someone a true person of faith?

Well, let’s look into the wisdom of Paul and the story of Abraham to unravel this intriguing mystery.

You see, Paul shares an insight with the Jews, pointing out that Abraham’s righteousness in God’s eyes wasn’t merely about his outward marking of circumcision.

“and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised,” (Romans 4:12).

No, it ran much deeper than that. Circumcision was a symbol of a transformed heart within, a reflection of unwavering faith. And here’s the thing, the gospel message doesn’t come with any hidden fine print — it’s all about faith.

Abraham, a revered figure for both Jews and Christians, earned his heavenly status not through external signs and works, but through his unwavering faith.

It’s not just about going through the motions or adhering to rituals. True Jews are the ones who believe with all their hearts.

So, what sets true faith apart from religious practices, you may wonder? Well, it all comes down to justification by faith. Abraham’s faith justified him, not his adherence to religious customs. It’s about belief, true and unwavering belief.

Remember, it doesn’t matter whether you’ve been circumcised or not. What truly matters is the faith that resides within you, the faith that mirrors the footsteps of our father Abraham — faith that transcends mere rituals.

So, embrace this powerful distinction between true faith and empty religion. Be the believers, the true children of Abraham, and let our hearts guide us towards the path of genuine faith.
