Let’s take a closer look at Abraham’s justifying faith and how it echoes the unwavering beliefs held by Christians to this day.
As we look into Abraham’s story, we find that his faith wasn’t merely a passive acceptance of God’s existence. No, it was something more necessary and meaningful.
“(as it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed, that is, God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that do not exist,” (Romans 4:17).
Abraham believed that God was the giver of life to the dead, as do modern day Christians by belief that God resurrected Jesus after the crucifixion. This belief, deeply rooted in his heart, guided his actions and decisions.
It’s crucial to note that God revealed His promise of justification to Abraham when he and his wife, Sarah, were childless. Given their advanced age, having children seemed utterly impossible. Yet, in the face of these difficulties, God made a bold promise of offspring.
Now, you might wonder if Abraham faltered and doubted God’s word, considering the impossibility of the situation. But here’s where his faith shined.
Rather than getting stuck in the limitations of the circumstances, Abraham focused on the immense power of God’s promise. He didn’t mock God or question His abilities; instead, he chose to believe in faith that anything was possible with God.
In the realm of true faith, the word of God stands unwaveringly reliable, and the possibilities with Him are boundless.
This faith, shared by Abraham and Christians alike, is centered on the conviction that Christ sacrificially died for our sins, triumphantly rose again, and now resides in heaven.
