Romans 6:4
Christian, are you still under the rule of a tyrant named sin, an oppressive master from which escape seemed impossible?
That dark era of misery might be a distant memory now, but what’s your relationship with this former master today? Something profound has occurred; you’ve experienced a transformation, a death.
Now, you’re under the guidance of a new Master, and His name is God. What does this new relationship mean for you?
In the words of Romans 6:4, “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.”
Your old life has faded away, replaced by something entirely new. Verse 5 tells us about a resurrection, a rebirth of your essence.
Verses 8 and 9 emphasize that, as a Christian, you’re alive with no possibility of returning to a state of death. All of this has been made possible through Jesus Christ, our guiding light.
Now, here’s the crucial point: You’re no longer bound by sin; it has no hold over you. The only relationship that truly matters now is the one where you’re alive, truly alive — in connection with God. Your allegiance should belong to no one else but Him.
There’s no grand struggle between two masters for your loyalty. One master, sin, has been vanquished, and the other, God, reigns supreme. Within you, there exists only one nature, one path to follow.
As a Christian, it’s vital to grasp this truth. You might not be perfect, but you are Christ’s, forever and always.
