Kindness as Power

Romans 12:18–21

Ever felt like you live in a world where truth and peace seem miles apart? Well, you’re not alone.

What if I told you there’s a way to navigate those stormy waters without losing sight of what matters most? Let’s dive into the revealed word of God— where truth meets conflict, kindness conquers evil, and why it matters.

If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good,” (Romans 12:18–21).

Sounds like a solid plan, right? But here’s the twist — sometimes truth is non-negotiable. When it’s about holding onto what’s right, that’s when the battleground is drawn. It’s about both holding onto truth while treating others with unexpected kindness, even those who stand against you.

Paul reminds to not seek revenge. That’s for a higher pay grade — God’s. Instead, picture this: your enemy’s hungry, offer food; they’re thirsty, pour a drink. Shock them with kindness. Because, you see, kindness has power — it turns the tables on evil.

So, how do we make this kindness work? Well, picture this: someone’s spreading lies about you, or they’re out to make your day miserable. Instead of hitting back, you serve them a slice of kindness pie. Sounds weird, huh? But that’s exactly what Paul, the author, is suggesting. By being good to those who harm you, you’re essentially taking evil out of the picture.

Here’s the lesson: Live your life inspired by the teachings of Jesus who forgave even when they nailed him to a cross. It’s tough, I get it. Choosing kindness when the world’s against you might seem impossible, but it’s what sets us apart. It’ll ruffle some feathers, but it’s a sacrifice worth making because it is acceptable to God.
