Week 4 of the LifePointe TikTok Journey: TikTok for Churches

Welcome back to our TikTok for Churches series. Each week, I’ll share what content we posted, the results, and my reflections on the process.

As you can see from the image above, we had 5 posts this week, a mix of short reels (around 30 seconds each) and one carousel post. Views are up slightly compared to last week, which is encouraging.

But here’s the most exciting part: We received real-world confirmation that our TikTok experiment is working! 🎉

Travis shared an awesome story of his wife having a conversation with her nurse, who mentioned watching one of our short reels. This is proof that TikTok is reaching people in our community—exactly what we hoped for!

Tip #1: Understand TikTok’s Local-Focused Algorithm

When a user creates a TikTok account, the platform promotes local content by default. For example, if someone in Spain creates an account with a Spanish phone number, their For You Page will feature content from users in Spain. Additionally, TikTok looks at IP addresses, so if that same user travels to Germany, they’ll start seeing content from German creators.

This is great news for local churches! People directly around your church will see your videos if they have a TikTok account.

Tip #2: Post Consistently to Stay Relevant

To maintain relevancy on TikTok, it’s recommended to post at least three to four times a week. Posting daily can boost your results even more.

I know this can be challenging for churches, as finding more than two to three relevant clips from a weekly sermon might be difficult. But this is where carousel posts come in handy—they are a great alternative to sermon clips and are relatively quick and easy to produce. Consider using them to share Bible verses or short prayers with your audience.

Moving Forward with TikTok Ministry

We’ll continue on this path! On a related note, I’ve been experimenting with my personal TikTok account. This week, my two most-viewed videos were related to the Olympic Games opening ceremony. It’s important for churches to keep this in perspective: while timely or controversial posts about current events may perform well, they might not align with your church’s brand. Don’t worry about going viral—slow and steady wins the digital media race!

Feel free to leave tips on improving reach and ask any questions you might have about TikTok engagement for churches or other social media ministry ideas.
