Week 5 of LifePointe TikTok Journey: TikTok for Churches

Welcome back to our TikTok for Churches series. Each week, I’ll share the content we posted, the results, and my reflections on the process.

As you can see from the image above, we had 5 posts this week. All were social sermon clips, with the shortest being 19 seconds and the longest just over a minute. Views held relatively steady this week. I didn’t post any carousel posts, as they haven’t been performing well lately.

Exciting news! We had our first sermon clip reach over 1,000 views. However, we also had another clip that I posted twice, which only received 8 views the first time and 3 views the second time. I’m still unsure why TikTok chose not to distribute it widely. I initially thought the timing of the post might be the issue, but I don’t think that’s the case.

TikTok Tip

TikTok is one of the most popular platforms for Gen Z, with around 44% of users under the age of 24. However, millennials and older generations are also jumping on board. Many brands are stepping in to create educational and entertaining content.

Here’s the age and gender demographics for LifePointe’s viewers. Notice that the sermon videos are reaching a variety of ages, with a slight lean towards a female audience, though not exclusively.

Vary your messages, fonts, and tags to reach different audiences.

We are making progress! The account continues to grow and make connections with the community around the church. The TikTok algorithm can be somewhat of a mystery in terms of what gets shown to other users and what doesn’t. I believe the key is for a video to generate likes, comments, and shares from others. Focus on this.

Next week, I’m going to try adding “Share this video” at the bottom of each clip to see how it performs.

Feel free to leave tips on improving reach and ask any questions you might have about TikTok engagement for churches or other social media ministry ideas.
