The World Wants You to Bow – Psalm 11 Says Look Up

The world is burning, and the wicked dance in the flames. They pass laws that mock righteousness, celebrate perversion, and silence truth.

The ones who fear God watch in anguish as corruption parades through the streets, while those who stand for what is right are scorned, canceled, and cast aside.

And we ask—how long, O Lord?

David felt this same weight in Psalm 11. His advisors, panicked by the evil around them, told him to run: “Flee as a bird to your mountain!” (Psalm 11:1). Get out. Give up. Save yourself.

It’s the same lie we hear today. Don’t speak up. Don’t stand firm. Just go along with it.

But David refused. He knew something his fearful friends had forgotten: God is still on His throne. He sees everything. And He is not indifferent.

The Lord is Still on His Throne

David’s advisors told him to run. “Flee as a bird to your mountain” (Psalm 11:1). They looked at the corruption around them and saw no way forward. The wicked had their weapons drawn, ready to strike the righteous. And if the very foundations were crumbling, what was left to fight for?

But David refused to panic. He refused to be driven by fear. Why? Because he knew one unshakable truth: “The Lord is in His holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven” (Psalm 11:4). The world may be in chaos, but God has not moved. He is not pacing in worry.

He is not wringing His hands, wondering what to do. He reigns.

We need this reminder today. The headlines scream disaster. Culture spirals further into depravity. It feels like evil has the upper hand. But nothing has changed in heaven. The Lord still reigns, and His justice will not sleep forever.

The Righteous Will Be Tested

This is where many Christians struggle. If God is in control, why does He allow us to suffer? Why doesn’t He just remove us from the wickedness that surrounds us? Psalm 11:5 gives us the answer: “The Lord tests the righteous.”

God never promised an easy life for His people. In fact, He ordains difficulty for us.

He designs trials for our good. Why? Because faith that is never tested is not real faith. Comfort breeds complacency, and God loves us too much to let us become weak, spoiled children who have never faced resistance.

Think of a tree in the wind. The storms do not weaken it—they force its roots deeper. The best, strongest plants do not grow in greenhouses, shielded from hardship. They grow in wild places, shaped by the elements. God allows pressure in our lives so that we will cling more tightly to Him.

The Wicked Will Not Escape

It’s easy to think that evil will go unpunished. The wicked prosper. They live in luxury. They flaunt their rebellion against God without consequence. But Psalm 11 reminds us that their judgment is certain.

“Upon the wicked He will rain coals; fire and brimstone and a burning wind shall be the portion of their cup” (Psalm 11:6).

God’s patience is not approval. His silence is not indifference. Judgment is coming. Every lie, every injustice, every act of violence will be accounted for. No one escapes the gaze of the Almighty. The world may celebrate sin, but God will not be mocked.

And this is where the urgency comes in. If you are still in your sin, you are under the wrath of God. There is no neutral ground. “God is against wickedness, and therefore He is against those who commit it.” That means the liar must stop lying. The adulterer must stop committing adultery. The thief must stop stealing. You must repent.

But there is hope. Because Christ died for sinners. If you turn from your sin and trust in Him, you will be saved. But if you remain in your sin, God is against you. And no one can stand when His judgment falls.

What Does God Require of Us?

We want influence. We want to change the world. But God’s first priority for us is not influence—it’s integrity.

“The Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright” (Psalm 11:7).

When everyone around you lies, tell the truth. When the world indulges in impurity, stay pure. When people steal, be generous. God sees. God delights in those who reflect His character. And the greatest reward is not power or recognition—it’s fellowship with Him.

Stand Firm

So what do we do when the world crumbles? We refuse to run. We refuse to compromise. We fix our eyes on the throne of God and live with integrity. Whether the world changes or not, we remain faithful.

David did not give up because he trusted in the Lord. Moses did not give up because he “endured as seeing Him who is invisible” (Hebrews 11:27). Nehemiah did not give up when his enemies mocked him—he entrusted the situation to God.

And you? Will you stand firm? Or will you run?

The righteous do not flee. They do not waver. They endure. Because they see the throne that cannot be shaken. And they trust the King who reigns forever.
