Society’s Moral Avalanche

Romans 1:29–32

Have you ever wondered why we seem to be drawn to sinful behaviors?

In the book of Romans, we discover a powerful truth about human nature. It turns out that when we choose to worship evil rather than God, He gives us over to our desires. Do these verses characterize our world today?

“people having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, and evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unfeeling, and unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them,” (Romans 1:29–32).

What happens when people turn away from the light of God and cry out against it? God takes the light away, leaving us with nothing but darkness. This is the only alternative to the light of God — a pitch-black existence.

Sadly, our world today characterizes this moral landslide. No amount of legislation or walls can solve this problem. Without God’s moral guidelines and a true fear of God, we find ourselves lost. To navigate this darkness, we must preach the attributes of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In fact, this message is our only answer. We need to proclaim the truth not only in the streets and our homes but also within our churches. We must pray for a revival like never before.

It’s essential to recognize that the book of Romans speaks to each one of us — the deliberate sinners. We cannot make excuses because we know that embracing sin leads to a reprobate mind. Evil only worsens within us; it cannot improve. We are in the hands of a wrathful God who will give us over to our preferences.

We must also acknowledge that death is appointed to us all, followed by judgment. The Bible and our own hearts cry out with this truth. There will unquestionably be a reckoning for our sins.

But here’s the good news: God is a merciful God. He sent a Savior, Jesus Christ, who died and resurrected for our sins. Through Him, we can receive the gift of righteousness and find hope. All we need to do is put our faith in Him.

So, in a world where sin seems to prevail, we have a choice. Will we continue down the path of darkness, or will we turn to the light of God? The gospel of Jesus Christ offers us a way out, a way to be forgiven, and a way to experience true transformation. Choose wisely and embrace the hope that is freely given to all who believe.
