Luke 18:9-14
Dear God,
I come before you, just as the tax collector did in the temple that day, with a humble heart and a deep need for your grace.
I know that I am not perfect, and I have made mistakes.
Like the Pharisee, I sometimes find myself feeling proud of what I do right, thinking I’m better than others. But today, I bring my true self before you, laying down any pride or self-righteousness.
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'”
Help me, Lord, to be like that tax collector, recognizing my flaws and asking for your mercy.
Let me not compare myself to others or think I’m more righteous, but instead, let me see myself as I truly am in your eyes—a person in need of your forgiveness and love.
I know that it’s not by my own actions or good deeds that I am made right in your sight. It is through your boundless love and the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus Christ.
His words echo in my heart, “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Help me to humble myself before you, Lord, recognizing that everything good in me comes from you.
Forgive me for the times I’ve judged others or thought myself better than them. Give me a heart that shows compassion and love to everyone, just as you do.
Help me to live a life that reflects your grace and mercy, a life that honors you in all I do.
Thank you, Father, for your unending love and patience with me. I surrender my pride and shortcomings to you, asking for your guidance and strength to walk humbly in your ways.
In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.
