The coffee’s gone cold.
I hadn’t meant to let it sit. But that’s how Tuesdays go, isn’t it? You wake up already behind, already worn, already wondering how a man can feel this tired on the second day of the week.
Outside my study window, the Ozark fog is still hanging low in the valley, stubborn as sin. The ridge beyond it, where the light usually breaks through, looks like it’s holding its breath. I know the feeling.
It’s Tuesday. Not quite the start. Nowhere near the end. Just the middle.
The stretch of road where most people quit.
And this morning, if I’m honest, I don’t feel particularly spiritual. I don’t feel strong. I don’t feel much of anything except the weight of one more ordinary day stacked on top of a hundred others.
But that’s where grace meets me. Not in the Sunday shine. Not in the Monday momentum.
In the blur of the middle.
The Strength That Finds You in the Fog
The apostle Paul once wrote that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. That verse used to sound like a nice thought, something you’d embroider on a pillow. But the older I get, the more I realize: that’s a lifeline for tired people.
Because what if God isn’t waiting for you to get strong?
What if the strength comes after the breaking, through the weariness, beneath the very thing you’re asking Him to take away?
Maybe that’s what Tuesdays are for—not powering through, but breaking open.
A Prayer for the Ones in the Middle
Father,
Some of us are here this morning with a thousand things on our minds.
Some of us are just trying to survive until lunch.
And some of us, Lord—if we’re really honest—don’t even know why we’re still trying.
But You do.
You see the mothers holding it together with coffee and a prayer.
The pastors who feel like they’ve poured out more than they had.
The workers grinding through thankless jobs.
The quiet saints who pray in living rooms nobody visits anymore.
You see it all.
And so we don’t ask You this morning for easy.
We ask for You.
Be our strength when we run out.
Be our peace when the world speeds up.
Be our hope when the headlines feel heavier than heaven.
And Father, when we forget—because we will—when we forget that You’re near,
whisper again in that still, small voice: “I am with you. Even here. Even now.”
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Scriptures to Carry When You Have Nothing Left
Let these words be your breath today. Let them walk with you through boardrooms, backroads, and breakrooms:
- Isaiah 40:29 – “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength.”
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 – “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
- Psalm 73:26 – “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
- Lamentations 3:23 – “His mercies are new every morning.”
Even on Tuesday mornings. Especially then.
Where Are You Weak Today?
This isn’t a rhetorical question. It’s sacred.
Where are you weak?
Where are you discouraged, depleted, or dry?
You don’t have to say it out loud. Just say it to Him. He’s listening. And He’s not asking you to be more than you are. He’s offering to be all that you need.
Don’t Miss the Miracle in the Middle
Here’s what I’m learning, one Tuesday at a time:
God does some of His best work in the middle.
Not at the beginning, when we’re eager.
Not at the end, when it all makes sense.
But in the gray, foggy stretch where we’re not sure we’re even making progress.
That’s where faith becomes real.
That’s where strength stops being ours and starts being His.
That’s where miracles happen—not in flashes of glory, but in the quiet resolve to keep walking when nothing feels spectacular.
So if you’re there today—in the middle, in the fog, in the fight—
don’t despise it.
God isn’t just waiting at the finish line.
He’s walking beside you in the middle mile.
And He is enough.
A Final Word for the Weary
If no one told you today:
You don’t have to feel strong to be strong.
You don’t have to have it all together to be held together by grace.
You don’t have to impress God to be loved by Him.
All you have to do is show up.
On a Tuesday morning.
With a soul that’s still open.
And hands that are still reaching.
That’s more than enough.
Because He is.
