The Road to Righteousness

Romans 3:19–20

Can anyone truly claim innocence in the presence of God’s judgment? When faced with the truth that the law alone cannot save us, we find ourselves at a crucial juncture in the book of Romans.

In Romans 3:19–20, Paul declares, “Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.”

At this stage of Romans, our hearts should be filled with despair, realizing the extent of our unrighteousness. We are compelled to ask, “What can I do?” and “How can I find salvation?”

God demands us to seek righteousness beyond ourselves, recognizing that our own efforts fall short. The collective failure of humanity is evident, and we wonder if there is even a single person who has succeeded.

Yet, take heart! The beginning of verse 21 provides a glimmer of hope: “But now apart from the Law, the righteousness of God has been revealed…”

God has unveiled our personal Savior in the form of Jesus Christ. Paul assures us that we need not despair any longer! The righteousness of God is accessible to all who believe. Hope is not lost, for we are never alone in this journey.
