Romans 5:3–5
Ever wonder about the incredible joy found in the Christian life?
Imagine having a close connection with Christ both now and forever in the glorious eternity that lies ahead. These blessings fill us with hope and happiness.
But wait, there’s a challenge that might cross your mind. Some might ask, “Why should we celebrate when facing tough times? Doesn’t hardship make the Christian journey difficult?”
It’s true, being a Christian isn’t about taking the easy road. There will be hurdles along the way, maybe even big ones. Do these obstacles take away from the joy of being a Christian?
Here’s the thing, especially for those of you just starting out in life. The idea of heaven might feel distant, and the path ahead might seem tough. Trials and tribulations could be part of the journey.
But let’s pause and consider this passage from Romans 5:3–5: “We also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Paul, in his wisdom, acknowledges that yes, troubles will indeed come our way. But here’s the twist: we can find glory during these troubles.
Imagine this - when you think about the wonders of heaven, let yourself leap and dance with excitement! And then, when you consider the struggles you might face here on Earth, keep that same spirit of celebration alive!
The way we react to challenges is proof of our Christian identity. We don’t belong solely to this world, even while we’re here. Instead of avoiding trouble, resorting to harmful habits, or drowning in self-pity, we find a spark of glory right in the heart of life’s pain.
So, whether it’s the joys of heaven or the challenges of Earth, remember this: as a Christian, you have the power to embrace both with a heart full of celebration.
Your journey might not always be easy, but that’s where your strength and character grow, leading to a hope that won’t disappoint. And all this is possible because of the incredible love of God, poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
